چکیده

Civilian vascular trauma has increased over the past decade with a concurrent surge in the use of firearms. Penetrating trauma accounts for approximately 90% of arterial injuries. These are often difficult to diagnose and treat. Early descriptions of the diagnosis and management of traumatic vascular injuries came from both military and civilian trauma surgeons. Trauma patients frequently have multiple injuries, complicating routine approaches to vascular repair. Acute subclavian artery injuries, which are now appearing more frequently in trauma centers as trauma care is regionalized, are especially difficult to treat because of the difficulty in obtaining adequate exposure even when the injury is isolated. Endovascular stentgraft placement offers a new and less invasive technique for the treatment of acute traumatic vascular injuries. We present a patient with traumatic disruption of the subclavian artery whose injury was successfully managed with an endovascular stentgraft.

Subclavian artery-esophageal fistula after placement of a self-expanding metal stent in a patient with esophagogastric anastomosis stenosis

Background: There have been reports on stent-related vascular erosions about patients with benign or malignant stenosis of the esophagus who received endoscopic stent insertion for palliative intention for oral intake. Case presentation: A 61-year-old woman with esophageal cancer located in the middle part of esophagus was treated with esophagectomy. Two years following the surgery, malignan...

[Outcome of endovascular stent graft placement in patients with acute thoracic aortic syndromes].

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the outcome of endovascular stent graft placement in patients with acute thoracic aortic syndromes. METHODS Emergency stent-graft implantations were performed in 57 patients with acute thoracic aortic syndromes from May 2001 to December 2005 (45 Stanford B aortic dissections, 9 acute penetrating aortic ulcers or pseudoaneurysms. 3 traumatic thoracic aneurysms). The clini...

Endovascular management of axillo-subclavian arterial injury: a review of published experience.

BACKGROUND The role of endovascular treatment for vascular trauma, including injury to the subclavian and axillary arteries, continues to evolve. Despite growing experience with the utilization of these techniques in the setting of artherosclerotic and aneurysmal disease, published reports in traumatic subclavian and axillary arterial injuries remain confined to sporadic case reports and case s...

Endovascular treatment of iatrogenic penetrating trauma of the carotid artery: case report Tratamento endovascular de trauma penetrante iatrogênico de artéria carótida: relato de caso

Carotid trauma demands early diagnosis and treatment. Open repair may be technically challenging if the trauma is at the base of the neck. We present a case of iatrogenic penetrating carotid trauma caused by insertion of a hemodialysis catheter. Treatment was accomplished by placement of a covered stent-graft in the common carotid artery, covering the puncture site. This case suggests that plac...
